Step-by-Step Patient Journey

Transcript

Welcome - I'm Marco Scarci, a consultant thoracic surgeon. In this video - I'll guide you through the full journey of care at our practice - from first contact to post-surgery recovery. Understanding each step helps reduce anxiety, and empowers you to feel more in control. Your journey begins with an inquiry. Whether by phone, email or text, you'll hear back quickly. We'll ask for some basic medical information and previous records. This helps us prepare for your consultation so we can give you the best possible care. Most consultations are virtual, but in-person appointments at our London locations are also available. Bring your symptoms, medical history, and any questions you may have. If you have private insurance, please have your policy details ready. If surgery is recommended, we can usually book it within days — based on your needs and urgency. Most procedures last around ninety minutes. You'll stay in hospital for one to four days, depending on your recovery. Full pre-operative instructions will also be provided in advance. Preparing for surgery includes arranging transport, stopping certain medications, and following fasting guidelines. You'll meet your anaesthetist and surgical team on the day. We'll make sure you feel fully informed and supported before going into theatre. After surgery, we focus on pain management and safe recovery. We use advanced techniques — such as nerve blocks or patient-controlled pain relief — to keep you comfortable. If you live far away, we offer remote monitoring to keep a close eye on your recovery. You'll be given clear aftercare instructions before going home. We'll guide you on wound care, recognising warning signs, and when to seek help. You'll also have a direct line to our team for any concerns — day or night. Follow-up appointments typically take place two weeks after surgery. If you're recovering well, we may refer you back to your local doctor. If further support is needed, we'll arrange that too. Your care is always tailored to your individual needs. Throughout your journey, you'll be treated with compassion, professionalism, and respect. We pride ourselves on clear communication and timely care — giving you confidence at every step. We understand that surgery can feel daunting - That's why we offer detailed preparation guides, and dedicated staff to support you - from your first call to full recovery. Thank you for watching - I hope this overview helps you feel more prepared. If you have any questions, please reach out. Our team is always here to help. We look forward to supporting you, on your healthcare journey.
